The United States and Germany have reached an agreement on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, details will be announced in the next few hours. This was announced on Wednesday by the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, speaking at a hearing at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“Today we will publish the agreement that we have reached with the German government. I can provide you with a number of details here,” she said.
According to Nuland, within the framework of agreements with the United States on the Nord Stream 2 project, Germany has undertaken to seek the development of pan-European sanctions against Moscow in the event of aggressive steps by Russia against Ukraine.
“Among other things, Germany has pledged to take action at the national level, as well as to seek the use of effective measures at the European level, including sanctions, to limit Russia’s export potential in the energy sector if Russia tries to use energy resources as a weapon or commits further aggressive acts against Ukraine “, – said the deputy head of the foreign ministry.
In addition, Nuland noted, Berlin, within the framework of the agreement with Washington on Nord Stream 2, agreed to support the extension of the agreement on the transit of energy carriers between Russia and Ukraine, which expires in 2024. The United States is seeking to extend this agreement for 10 years, the diplomat said.
