German environmentalists have suspended the construction of Nord Stream 2. They challenged in court the license to lay a gas pipeline in the German economic zone of the Baltic, reports TASS.
Experts have appealed to the special significance of the territory for nesting birds.
However, the German Federal Office for Shipping and Hydrography does not agree with this. They explained that the depth of the sea in the construction area is about 20 meters, so the indicated area is not so important for the birds.
The regulator considers it possible to resume the laying of the Nord Stream from the end of May, since the last lawsuit “has a suspensive effect” only for a permit issued in mid-January. “
